General information on fabric covers

Fabrics are high-tech products. The selection and composition of the material and the manufacturing method play a major role in determining the appearance, the feel and touch, the durability and the care characteristics of a cover fabric. We select our fabrics with a focus on their effectiveness for everyday use. Only hard-wearing, non-fading and low-maintenance textiles are used for our upholstered furniture. We have compiled some information and notes regarding our cover fabrics below.

1. Pilling

In the first weeks, small balls of fibre can form on the surface of the fabric (“pilling”). Remove the pilling as you would for a woollen pullover, ideally with a fabric shaver.

2. Sitting marks

In microfibre, chenille and velour fabrics, shading in the seat (“sitting marks”) is a normal sign of use. You can counteract this with regular maintenance care and occasional brushing of the pile in all directions.

3. Humidity

In dry rooms, modern synthetic fibre materials are prone to a build-up of static electricity. It is good for your health and for your sofa to ensure adequate humidity if the rooms reach high temperatures.

4. Colour variations

For follow-up orders of fabrics, bear in mind that some differences in colour cannot be avoided. Fabric colours differ slightly in every production batch and all fabrics fade slightly over time.

5. Staining and fading

Be aware that many items of clothing can stain your sofa fabric. Jeans, for example, are designed to release some of their dye when they are stone-washed. This also happens when jeans are worn. For pieces of furniture in light colours, test whether critical clothing items will stain. This discolouration is not comparable with normal soiling. This is in no way a fault in the cover fabric and is the result of a fault in the clothing fabric.

Stains in cover parts can be removed by a professional cleaning company. Conversely, furniture fabrics can in rare cases cause slight staining. Do not position your sofa directly up against the wall and use a white cloth to check for potential staining, especially in the case of red upholstery fabrics. If staining does occur, vacuum the sofa with low suction power or perform thorough cleaning.

Ensure that your upholstered furniture is not exposed to direct sunlight! Covers made from natural materials (leather, but also fabrics with natural components) are particularly prone to fading.

6. Wrinkling

Your sofa is a comfortable seating product. We therefore use soft upholstery materials with a casual look, unlike the fabric used in car seats or chairs. In new upholstered furniture, the padding will compress in the initial weeks of use. You will therefore notice slight wrinkling in the sitting and back area and a change in the firmness of the seat. Please note that the Viscotex comfort seating responds to the room temperature. In this initial period, the cover material will stretch slightly while the upper layer of the padding is slightly compressed. This is normal and does not constitute grounds for a complaint. Comfort and durability are not impaired in any way. Rub the cover smooth, to the left and to the right towards the armrests.
