Changeable batteries and electric accessories

1. Changeable batteries

The electrical functions of your upholstered furniture are powered by a changeable battery. There are two variants that can be used for this:

  1. 1. In variant 1a, the battery is located in a sewn-in pocket
on the back of the upholstered furniture
  2. In variant 1b, the battery is located in a compartmenton the back of the upholstered furniture

1. Changeable battery in the pocket

This variant is a changeable battery that is located in a pocket sewn into the cover on the back of the upholstered furniture.

Removing the changeable battery from the pocket and replacing it

Close all electrical functions and open the pocket on the back of the upholstered furniture:

Press the centre of the battery in the housing with one finger and guide it forwards until it is at an angle in its holder. Now remove the battery:

Place the changeable battery back in its pocket with the two arrows on the left opposite each other.

Charging the changeable battery (pocket)

If the changeable battery no longer has sufficient power and needs to be recharged, an audible signal will be emitted. To charge the changeable battery, remove it from the pocket (see description above) and charge it as follows:

  • When charging for the first time, remove the adhesive tab covering the contact points, which serves as transport protection.
  • To charge the battery pack, first connect the power pack to the battery. Once this has been done, the battery can be connected to the mains power supply.
  • Once charging is complete, first disconnect the power pack from the mains supply and then disconnect the battery from the device.

Checking the charging capacity of the changeable battery (pocket)

The changeable battery is equipped with an LED indicator that displays the current charging level. To check the charging level, press the white push-button on the left of the LED indicator. The remaining charge is displayed in 20% increments. The LED indicator on the charging device then indicates the charging level as follows:

  • Red: Changeable battery is being charged. Max. charging time: 4–5 hours
  • Green: Changeable battery is 100% charged and ready for operation.

To supply the upholstered furniture with power, at least four bars should light up green. If this is not the case, charge the battery.

2. Changeable battery in compartment

This variant is a changeable battery with a battery compartment located on the back of the upholstered furniture:

Removing the changeable battery (compartment) and replacing it

Close all convenience functions before removing the changeable battery. Remove the changeable battery from the compartment on the back of the upholstered furniture for charging by pressing on it:

Once you have charged the changeable battery, you can simple insert it back in the compartment.

Charging the changeable battery (compartment)

If the changeable battery no longer has sufficient power and needs to be recharged, an audible signal will be emitted. To charge the changeable battery, remove it from the compartment (see description above) and charge it as follows:

  • When charging for the first time, remove the adhesive tab covering the contact points, which serves as transport protection.
  • To charge the battery pack, first connect the power pack to the battery. Once this has been done, the battery can be connected to the mains power supply.
  • During charging, four LEDs flash alternately and display a capacity of 25%/50%/75%/100%. When all four LEDs are lit up but not flashing, this means that the battery is fully charged.
  • Once charging is complete, first disconnect the power pack from the mains supply and then disconnect the battery from the device.
  • Once the changeable battery is charged, simply push it back into the battery compartment.

Checking the charging capacity of the changeable battery (compartment)

The changeable battery is equipped with an LED indicator that displays the current charging level. To check, press the button above the four LEDs. They will display the remaining charge:

  • 1 LED lit up: 25% capacity remaining
  • 2 LEDs lit up: 50% capacity remaining
  • 3 LEDs on: 75% capacity remaining
  • 4 LEDs on: 100% capacity remaining

3. Safety information for changeable batteries

  • Fully charge your battery pack before using it for the first time. This is very important for achieving the maximum charging capacity. This is vital for optimum use of the battery pack.
  • Ensure that each person involved in the connection or installation of the device has been instructed sufficiently.
  • If you pass on your upholstered furniture with changeable battery to a third party, ensure that you also pass on this documentation / the online address.
  • During operation, be sure to notice any unusual noises or irregular function. If anything unusual occurs, switch off the system.
  • To prevent accidents caused by short circuit, never allow metal objects to touch the contacts of the battery pack.
  • Exchange the battery if it is not fully charged after 24 hours.
  • The changeable battery must never be deeply discharged. For this reason, the changeable battery must always remain connected to the power pack when not in use, to ensure full capacity the next time the charging device is used. The integrated electronics prevents overcharging of the battery and switches to “equalisation charging”.
  • Even when the changeable battery is not in use, it must be fully charged every three months to prevent deep discharge. A deep discharge can destroy the battery.
  • Do not expose the changeable battery to mechanical impact.
  • Do not charge the battery overnight; the battery must be charged under supervision.
  • If the battery falls and is damaged, we do not recommend continuing to use it.
  • Ensure that the battery pack is never immersed in water or other liquids. Protect the changeable battery from high humidity and splashes of water.
  • Storing or operating the changeable battery in potentially explosive areas is prohibited.
  • The changeable battery must be kept away from and protected from fire.
  • Opening the changeable battery or making any alterations or modifications to it is prohibited; this may only be performed by trained specialist personnel.
  • Ensure that the polarity is correct.
  • Never short-circuit the changeable battery. It may overheat and cause burns because of excess current flow.
  • Only operate the changeable battery in compliance with this documentation and these specifications.
  • Protect the changeable battery from excess power surges and mechanic stress. Do not operate the changeable battery if there is visible damage to its housing or cable.
  • Children should not use the changeable battery. Ensure that the changeable battery is kept out of the reach of children during storage and during operation.
  • Damaged cables or devices must only be exchanged or repaired by the manufacturer, the manufacturer’s customer service or other qualified persons.
  • If you want to clean the device, the power supply must be disconnected. The device must only be cleaned with a dry or slightly damp cloth.
  • The changeable battery must only be charged and/or operated with spare parts provided by the manufacturer that correspond to the initial specification of the changeable battery. Using other changeable batteries is prohibited and may cause personal injury or property damage.
  • Operating the changeable battery with chargers other than those recommended can result in burns, electric shock and injury.
  • Storing the main adapter and the changeable battery in places where the temperature can rise to ≥70 °C is prohibited (e.g. inside a car when outdoor temperatures are high). Failure to comply with this rule will impair performance.
  • The changeable battery must only be charged in an ambient temperature of 0 °C to 40 °C.
  • The charging cable of the changeable battery and the power pack must not be subjected to excessive stress and must be kept away from heat and sharp edges. Carrying devices by the cable is prohibited.
  • The changeable battery must only be charged in a well-ventilated location.
  • Covering the changeable battery is prohibited.
  • Disposing of the changeable battery with the household waste is prohibited. The device must be disposed of as specified by the public authorities. Disposing of and collecting old batteries serves to prevent environmental and health hazards. Detailed information on disposing of old batteries is available from your local authority or your disposal company.

4. Maintenance and care of the changeable battery

Carry out the following work on the housing, cables and connector of the changeable battery at regular intervals:

  • Remove dust and dirt with a slightly dampened cloth.
  • Perform a visual inspection to check for mechanical damage and wear.
  • When the battery pack is in regular use, maintenance must be performed at least every six months.
